Miller excited scouts by reaching 97 mph with his fastball in his opening start of 2022, and he continued to bring the heat all spring. He could factor into the first round thanks to his improved velocity as well as his quality secondary pitches and pitchability. Gatorade's Ohio state player of the year, he has better feel for spin than most of this year's prep arms and should be an immediate contributor at Louisville if he decides to attend college rather than turn pro.
Miller features high spin rates and depth on both of his breaking balls, with his 78-82 mph curveball devastating hitters more regularly than his tighter 83-87 mph slider. His fastball climbed to 91-95 mph with some armside run by midsummer, and he focused his offseason on adding more strength and velocity. He also shows the makings of a potentially solid 82-86 mph changeup with fade.
While Miller isn't very physical and doesn't have the prettiest delivery, he's loose and athletic, and his arm works well. He attacks hitters and throws strikes, displaying aptitude for landing his curve where he wants. He uses a high three-quarters slot to create angle and stay on top of his breaking pitches, and his competitive makeup is another point in his favor.

Miller dominated as an Ohio high school senior in 2022, hitting 97 mph with his fastball in his first start and winning Gatorade's state player of the year award. His combination of stuff and polish made him one of the most attractive prep pitchers in the Draft and landed him a $1,697,900 bonus in the second round. He was rarely at his best in 2023, battling diminished velocity and missing six weeks at midseason with a shoulder impingement, though he returned to help Single-A Jupiter win the Florida State League championship.
Even when Miller sat at 91-95 mph with his fastball in high school, there were some concerns about its mild armside run and pedestrian metrics, and hitters teed off on his heater when it parked at 88-90 early in 2023. He has switched to a sinker this year and it has operated in the low 90s with more life than his four-seamer. He always has shown good feel spin, generating high rpms and plenty of depth on an upper-70s curveball and a tighter mid-80s slider. His mid-80s changeup has some fade and sink but needs more velocity separation from his fastball.
Miller's high-three-quarters arm slot creates atypical angle and helps him stay on top of his curveball and slider, which he commands better than most youngsters can. His delivery has a short arm action and he repeats it well enough to provide regular strikes. Without a true plus pitch, he may not reach his original ceiling as a No. 3 starter, but he has enough pitches and control to be a No. 4 or 5.

Miller impressed scouts by popping 97 mph with his fastball in his first start last spring and never took his foot off the gas en route to winning Gatorade Ohio High School Player of the Year honors. His combination of velocity, secondary stuff and pitchability made him one of the top prep pitchers in the 2022 class and earned him a $1,697,900 bonus in the second round. After limiting him to 5 2/3 innings in his pro debut, Miami will turn him loose in Single-A this season.
Miller worked on adding strength and velocity before his senior season and came away with a four-seam fastball that sits at 91-95 mph with some arm-side run but pedestrian metrics. He generates high spin rates and impressive depth on each of his breaking balls, a 78-82 mph curveball that dominates hitters more consistently than his tighter 83-87 mph slider. He has impressed the Marlins with his feel for his fading 82-86 mph changeup, which could become a solid offering as he uses it more often.
Miller missed nearly two months of his first full pro season with shoulder soreness but returned at the end of July. A tough competitor, he likes to challenge hitters and has the ability to land his curveball where he wants. His high three-quarters arm slot creates difficult angles and helps him stay on top of his breaking pitches.

Miller hit 97 mph with his fastball in his first start this spring and continued to show quality stuff throughout his high school senior season. Gatorade's Ohio player of the year, he had a combination of velocity, secondary offerings and pitchability that ranked among the best in the 2022 prep class. The Marlins drafted him in the second round and signed him away from a Louisville commitment for $1,697,900.
After focusing his offseason on adding more strength and velocity, Miller consistently worked at 91-95 mph with armside run on fastball. He imparts high spin rates and plenty of depth on both of his breaking balls, with his 78- to 82-mph curveball overmatching hitters more regularly than his tighter 83- to 87-mph slider. He also has the makings of a potentially solid 82- to 86-mph changeup with fade.
Although Miller isn't very physical and doesn't have a textbook delivery, he's loose and athletic and his arm works well. He's a tough competitor who attacks hitters, provides consistent strikes and shows the aptitude to locate his curveball wherever he wants. His high three-quarters arm slot creates angle and helps him stay on top of his breaking pitches.
