Schubart played for a St. Mary's Prep (Orchard Lake, Mich.) juggernaut that captured three straight titles in his three full seasons and included two players who signed for seven-figure bonuses (Brock Porter out of high school, Alex Mooney following two years at Duke) and another who could be a first-round pick in 2025 (Auburn outfielder/catcher Ike Irish). He fell two hits shy of winning the Big 12 Conference triple crown last spring, batting .370 with 23 homers and 68 RBI in 49 games. He continued to rake during the summer, slashing .341/.565/.773 between brief stints with the U.S. collegiate national team and in the Cape Cod League.

While Schubart is pretty much a one-tool guy, prodigious left-handed power is always in demand, and he owns plus-plus raw pop thanks to his combination of bat speed, massive strength and a stroke designed to launch balls in the air. He can drive the ball out of any part of any ballpark and will take walks when pitchers refuse to challenge him. He comes with concerns about how he'll handle pro pitching, however, because he strikes out at a high rate and struggles even with in-zone contact.

Schubart has to hit because he offers little value outside of the batter's box. He's a well-below-average runner with range to match on the outfield corners and a below-average arm. He'll almost certainly shift to first base at the next level and could wind up at DH.

Schubart has been a major power prospect for years, falling two hits shy of the Big 12 Conference triple crown as a sophomore before finishing his Oklahoma State career with 59 homers and a 1.169 OPS. His prodigious power has come with swing-and-miss concerns, though, which led to Cleveland grabbing him in the third round of the 2025 Draft and signing him for just under slot ($730,000). The Michigan native made a brief cameo at Single-A, where, true to his three-true outcome profile, 63.6 percent of his plate appearances ended with a homer, walk or strikeout.

Standing at a hulking 6-foot-5, 223 pounds, Schubart has double-plus raw power -- where the vast majority of his value derives. It's more than just brute strength; the lefty slugger's bat speed and penchant for pulled air contact make him a home run machine. He's selective and waits for pitches he can hunt, which leads to impressive walk rates, but he often struggles to make contact in the zone. The Guardians are working to shorten his swing to counteract that problem, especially early in counts, even if whiffs will likely always be a part of his game. Schubart was still fairly productive against fellow southpaws in college, and maintaining that will be key to his future deployment.

Given his massive size, Schubart is likely a first baseman long-term, although the Guardians will give him a chance to play an outfield corner several times per week. He doesn't have a great first step or the speed to make up for it, and his arm likely limits him to left if he can pass in the outfield. His lack of range also leaves him as a below-average defender at first. The good news is that if he's limited to DH, he has the type of raw power to still potentially make an impact there.
