A three-year starter at Rutgers, Cohen set a Big Ten Conference record with 56 hits in league play (30 games) this spring while slashing .387/.460/.523 overall. He gave the Scarlet Knights a position player selected in the top three rounds for the third straight Draft, following Ryan Lasko and Joshua Kuroda-Grauer (both Athletics) when he went 85th overall to the Giants. Signed for $847,500, he headed directly to Single-A.
One of the best contact hitters in the 2025 college class, Cohen posted a 5 percent strikeout rate as a junior thanks to his efficient left-handed swing and disciplined gap-to-gap approach. However, he's an extreme ground-ball hitter, so he generates very little power. He produced decent exit velocities while setting a Rutgers record with 24 doubles this spring, but he homered just four times in 163 games during his college career.
Cohen combines solid-to-plus speed with good instincts on the bases and in the outfield. Though he played mostly right field at Rutgers, he covers enough ground to warrant a look in center field as a pro. If he can't handle center, his fringy arm strength likely will land him in left field.
