White was a solid high school prospect in 2021, but his commitment to North Carolina State was too strong and teams wouldn’t meet his bonus ask. After setting a Division I freshman and school record with 27 homers, he transferred to Louisiana State for his sophomore year, going yard 24 more times and leading D-I hitters with 105 RBIs as the Tigers won the Men's College World Series. He equaled that home run total again as a junior, and while his name was mentioned as a potential first-round pick, he landed in Round 2 with the A’s, who went over slot to sign him for $3 million and sent him to Single-A Stockton to get his professional feet wet.
White’s right-handed power is legitimate and he can hit the ball a long way to all fields thanks to his strength and bat speed. He might be known for his home run totals but he’s a better overall hitter than people think, finding the barrel consistently and limiting strikeouts. His knack for contact can lead to him expanding his strike zone, but he doesn’t swing and miss very often.
It will be White’s bat that carries him to the big leagues. He’s a well-below-average runner who likely lacks the range and tools to stick at third base, where he toiled as a sophomore and junior, earning praise for playing through a shoulder injury at LSU in 2023. He’s likely headed to first base long term, which could give the A’s a glut of serious offensive talent between him and first-rounder Nick Kurtz.

Though White produced some of the best raw power and exit velocities in the 2021 Draft class, pro teams wouldn't meet his asking price and he opted to attend North Carolina State. He homered three times in his first college game and nine times in his first eight contests en route to setting NCAA Division I freshman and Wolfpack records with 27 long balls. He transferred to Louisiana State as a sophomore and went deep 24 times while topping D-I with 105 RBIs and helping the Tigers win the College World Series -- despite injuring his right shoulder in the season opener and requiring minor surgery during the summer. After hitting 24 more homers this past spring, his name came up in first-round conversations, but he ended up going in Round 2 to the A’s, who went over slot to sign him for $3 million.
White generates huge right-handed power to all fields with strength, bat speed and an uncanny ability to barrel balls. Known more for his slugging, he's underrated as a hitter who makes repeated contact with impressive exit velocities. Though he's overly aggressive and regularly expands his strike zone, he rarely swings and misses.
As a well-below-average runner with average arm strength, White provides limited value on the bases and in the field. Mostly a DH as a freshman, he primarily played third base after that and likely will wind up at first base in pro ball. He lacks range and is erratic at the hot corner, though he earns praise for gritting through the 2023 season and filling a team need despite his bad shoulder.

IMG Academy was created to help produce big-time Draft talent and in many ways it's succeeded. Its 2019 senior class produced three players taken in the top two rounds, including power-hitting third baseman Rece Hinds, taken in the second round by the Reds that June. White is following in Hinds’ footsteps as a corner infielder with pop who is surrounded by several other top-three-round-caliber Draft prospects.
The big, strong right-handed hitter is all about the bat. White, thick and barrel-chested, has the chance to hit, and with plenty of power. He never gets cheated at the plate and has power to all fields, but scouts also like his approach and the balance he shows at the plate, with a knack for consistently barreling up the baseball.
There are questions, however, beyond his offensive upside. The North Carolina State recruit has enough arm strength and decent hands, giving him a chance to potentially stick at third, but with below-average speed and his thick build, most see a need for a move to first. That puts much more pressure on his bat and the history of right-right first basemen out of high school in terms of Draft status is not great.
