Kohn immediately claimed a role in Mississippi State's bullpen as freshman before missing all of 2023 following Tommy John surgery. He showed average stuff when he came back as a starter and went undrafted in 2024, then improved his stuff and strike-throwing as a redshirt junior last spring. One of the best fourth-year collegians in the 2025 Draft, he went in the fourth round and will make his pro debut this year.

Though Kohn's fastball has pedestrian velocity at 91-95 mph, hitters don't see it coming out of his low three-quarters arm slot and flat approach angle, and he has the aptitude to work it with carry up in the zone or spot it down at the knees. He also has advanced command of a sweeping low-80s slider that he can locate on either side of the plate. While he works almost exclusively with those two pitches, he does show a promising low-80s changeup with fade that could give him a third solid offering.

Kohn improved his athleticism in 2025, allowing him to get down the mound better and repeat his delivery more consistently. That led to improved extension and deception as well as control and command. He has a high floor as a three-pitch lefty starter with advanced feel for his craft and strong mound presence.

He came back as a starter with average stuff last year and went undrafted before kicking his arsenal and control up a notch this spring. He opened his redshirt junior season with a pair of 11-strikeout performances and continued to pitch well in Southeastern Conference play before signing for $547,800 as a fourth-rounder.

Kohn's fastball operates at 91-94 mph and tops out at 95, but it plays up because hitters have trouble picking it up from his low three-quarters arm slot and flat approach angle, and he can throw it with carry up in the strike zone or locate it down at the knees. He has very good feel for a sweeping low-80s slider that he can locate on either side of the plate. He works mainly with those two pitches and occasionally mixes in a low-80s changeup with fade.

Kohn looks more athletic this year, getting down the mound and repeating his delivery better, allowing him to improve his extension and pound the strike zone. There's still room to add more strength to his 6-foot-4 frame, so it's possible that his stuff could tick up further.
