Minacci became Wake Forest's closer as a sophomore in 2022 and has been one of the best in college baseball this spring. An integral part of a Demon Deacons team that ended the regular season ranked No. 1, he should be one of the first relievers selected in July. He shouldn't require much development time as a pro and could become one of the first 2023 draftees to reach the Majors.
Minacci attacks hitters with two plus pitches. His fastball parks at 94-96 mph and peaks at 99 with armside run. His slider sits in the mid-80s and reaches 90 mph with more depth than horizontal action, eliciting a lot of empty swings and chases.
With effort in his delivery and no third pitch, Minacci is purely a reliever. He has the intensity for the role and also has settled down to throw more strikes this spring. He has the ceiling of a setup man in the big leagues.

Wake Forest has developed into one of the best college baseball programs in the country, famous for its pitching lab and churning out starters like first-rounder Rhett Lowder (2023, Reds) and second-round pick Sean Sullivan (2023, Rockies). The Demon Deacons also produce relief prospects, with Minacci leading the way after serving as the school’s closer for two years and saving 13 games in 2023. That resulted in the Angels taking him in the sixth round of last summer’s Draft and sending him to Single-A Inland Empire for his debut.
Minacci is a two-pitch reliever who could move pretty quickly through the Angels’ system, especially given their penchant for pushing college arms aggressively up the ladder. Both of his offerings are plus: a fastball with armside run that sits 94-96 mph and tops out at 99, and a mid-80s slider that touches 90 mph with more depth than horizontal action that misses a ton of bats.
There is no third pitch in Minacci’s arsenal and there’s some effort in his delivery, so there’s no question of his future role. He has the intense mentality that can serve a reliever well late in games. His strike-throwing improved over the course of his college career, providing more confidence of him being able to handle high-leverage situations, perhaps as a future setup man in the big leagues.

Minacci became Wake Forest's closer as a sophomore in 2022 and was one of the best in college baseball this past spring. An integral part of a Demon Deacons team that ended the regular season ranked No. 1, he racked up 13 saves as a junior before landing in the sixth round and signing with the Angels for right around slot. He has the chance to be one of the quickest of the 2023 draftees to make it to the big leagues.
