Galiz agreed to a $1.5 million bonus with the Yankees, but they pulled out of the deal in November 2020. He also lost his father, Edgar, to Covid-related complications that month. The top-rated catcher in the 2020-21 international class, he signed two months later for the $812,500 the Dodgers had remaining in their bonus pool. He's repeating Single-A this season but is still young for the level at age 20.
A former middle infielder, Galiz has more quickness and agility than a typical catcher. He needs more polish behind the plate but has the hands to become a solid receiver and framer with more experience. He has plus arm strength and also earns praise for his intelligence and leadership skills.
Galiz is less advanced offensively than defensively. He does have bat speed and some aptitude for driving balls in the air to his pull side, but he needs more strength and patience if he's going to do much damage. He has the upside of a .240 hitter with 15 homers per season, which would be enough to make him a regular considering his defensive ability.

Galiz originally agreed to sign with the Yankees for $1.5 million, but they backed out of the commitment in November 2020, nine days after his father Edgar died of COVID-related complications. Two months later, the Dodgers signed the top-rated catcher in the 2020-21 international class for the $812,500 they had remaining in their bonus pool, adding him to their collection of Venezuelan catching prospects that also includes Diego Cartaya and Yeiner Fernandez. Galiz made his U.S. debut at age 18 last year and slashed .235/.343/.471 in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
A former middle infielder, Galiz is quicker and more athletic than most catchers. He moves well behind the plate, has the hands to become at least a solid receiver and can deter the running game with plus arm strength. He impressed with his framing ability during his first season in the United States and also earns praise for his intelligence and maturity.
Galiz's defense is ahead of his offense at this point. He does offer 20-homer potential from the right side of the plate thanks to his bat speed, growing strength and feel for driving balls in the air to his pull side. But he'll need to address swing-and-miss concerns because he gets overly aggressive and tends to pull off pitches, resulting in a 25.3 percent strikeout rate last season.

The top catching prospect in the 2020-21 international crop, Galiz originally committed to sign with the Yankees for $1.5 million. But they backed out of the agreement in November 2020, nine days after his father Edgar died of covid-related complications. The Dodgers signed him two months later for the $812,500 they had left in their bonus pool, adding him to a collection of Venezuelan catching prospects that also includes Diego Cartaya and Yeiner Fernandez.
Galiz's .218/.286/.287 batting line in his pro debut in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League belies his offensive potential. He's a right-handed hitter with bat speed and a patient approach who already makes consistent contact. He shows some feel for launching balls in the air and could develop 20-homer power once he gets stronger.
A former middle infielder, Galiz is more athletic than most catchers. He's quick and agile behind the plate, where he shows soft hands and solid arm strength. He'll need time to develop but has the intelligence and maturity to make the most of his physical gifts.

Galiz's world was shattered last November, when both his father Edgar died of covid-related complications and the Yankees backed out of an agreement to sign him for $1.5 million out of Venezuela. The top catching prospect in the 2020 international class, he wound up joining the Dodgers in January for the $812,500 they had remaining in their bonus pool. He adds to the club's strong collection of Venezuelan catching prospects that also includes Keibert Ruiz, Diego Cartaya and Yeiner Fernandez.
Galiz is advanced enough on both sides of the ball that he could have come to the United States for his debut this summer. A patient hitter with a quick right-handed stroke, he's content to spray line drives to all fields. As he gets stronger and gets more aggressive with his swing, he could develop 20-homer power.
A former middle infielder who's quite athletic for a catcher, Galiz is quick and agile behind the plate. He has the soft hands to become at least a solid receiver and has the arm strength to match. He also earns praise for his intelligence, leadership ability and maturity.

Galiz dreamed of being the next Gleyber Torres and for most of his childhood, he followed in his countryman’s footsteps as a middle infielder.
All that changed two years ago when he began working behind the plate. His quick feet, strong arm, high baseball IQ and the overall athleticism that he displayed as a middle infielder has helped him become the top catching prospect on the international market for 2020. He still has the soft hands of a middle infielder, but now he uses them to receive and block pitches. The internal clock and quick release he used to throw runners out from shortstop now make him a threat behind the plate.
Galiz also shows advanced skills at the plate. The teen features a quick and compact swing with the ability to drive the ball to all fields. He also projects to have plus power in the future. Galiz still models his overall game, especially in the batter’s box, after Torres.
He’s an average runner now, but he projects to be a solid runner in the future. Galiz grew up with the game and has been training with Emiro Barboza, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program, at his academy in Venezuela since he was 10 years old.
The Yankees are the favorite to sign him.
