Scouting Report

2025

Scouting grades: Fastball: 70 | Slider: 60 | Control: 40 | Overall: 40

After Alberto signed with the Rays for $70,000 out of the Dominican Republic in 2019, he lost his first pro season to the pandemic and then needed three full years, and part of a fourth, in Rookie ball. He had his best season yet in 2025, compiling a 2.59 ERA with 64 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings between two Class A stops, though Tampa Bay declined to protect him on its 40-man roster. The White Sox plucked him in the Rule 5 Draft at the Winter Meetings and must keep him on their active big league roster throughout 2026, or else place him on waivers and offer him back to the Rays for half of his $100,000 selection price.

Alberto's electric arm made him a prime Rule 5 target. He relies extensively on a fastball that parks at 96-98 mph and reaches 101 with natural cutting action, and when it's at its best, hitters can't stop chasing it out of the zone. He backs it up with a mid-80s slider that features sweeping life.

Alberto's 6-foot-8 build, his low three-quarters arm slot and the angle and extension he creates makes him even more difficult to hit. He has only worked 172 1/3 innings as a pro and his control and command still have a long way to go, but he has closer upside. He's not really ready for the Majors, so Chicago will break him in gently as it tries to hold on to him.
