One of the top high school left-handers in the 2019 Draft, Mullins battled elbow problems that spring and through his career at Auburn, working just 53 1/3 innings in three college seasons before having Tommy John surgery in 2022. The Red Sox still selected him in the 12th round that July and he didn't make his pro debut until the end of the 2023 season. Fully healthy in 2024, he posted a 3.94 ERA with 118 strikeouts in 89 High-A innings.
While Mullins' fastball doesn't have notable velocity, sitting in the low 90s and peaking at 95 mph, it misses plenty of bats because it has tremendous carry up in the strike zone. He'll flash a plus low-80s slider with two-plane depth at times, and also will turn it into a harder, tighter cutter. His low-80s changeup isn't as reliable but has quality tumble at its best and helps him keep right-handers in check.
Mullins creates deception with his delivery, which features a big leg kick, a twist that hides the ball behind him and a low release point. He exhibited fringy control in his first full pro season and will need to improve his strike-throwing to become a No. 4 or 5 starter. If not, he could have a future as a lefty reliever with two solid offerings.
