Castellano began his pro career by signing with the Phillies for just $10,000 back in July 2018. He didn’t make his official pro debut until 2021, appearing in 16 Dominican Summer League games (all but one in relief). He spent the next two seasons with Single-A Clearwater mostly coming out of the bullpen but mixing in some starts, so it wasn’t until the 2024 season that he jumped on the prospect radar at all. Getting the chance to start, the right-hander pitched his way from High-A Jersey Shore to Double-A Reading and would have landed on the 2025 version of the Phillies Top 30 list but was selected by the Twins in December’s Rule 5 Draft.

Castellano is a big physical right-hander with a legitimate three-pitch mix. His fastball sits in the mid-90s and plays up thanks to excellent extension. Right now, his changeup is his best secondary offering, a firm cambio thrown in the upper-80s, but some scouts also really like his curve and think it could develop into an out pitch as a low-80s breaker with power and depth.

The 23-year-old right-hander took a huge step forward in finding the strike zone in 2024, cutting his walk rate tremendously. He has the repertoire to potentially start long-term, but he’s more reliever-ish in his delivery. He’ll have to stick on the Twins big league roster or get offered back, so it probably would make sense to let him get his feet wet coming out of the bullpen, where his stuff could tick up.
