Scouting Report

2026

Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Slider: 60 | Splitter: 50 | Control: 35 | Overall: 40

Rossi spent six years in college, bouncing from West Florida to the State JC of Florida (Manatee-Sarasota) to UNC Charlotte. After missing all of 2023 following Tommy John surgery, he came back to reach 97 mph with his fastball and destroy college hitters with his slider in 2024 but went undrafted because he was 25 years old. Signed as a nondrafted free agent for $10,000, he posted a 2.18 ERA, .119 opponent average and 34 percent strikeout rate in his pro debut last season.

Rossi's slider tore up hitters at two Class A levels with its combination of mid-80s velocity and huge sweep, producing an elite 52 percent swing-and-miss rate. His fastball works in the mid-90s and maxes out at 98 mph with armside run. He works east and west with his heater and slider, then can drop an upper-80s splitter though the bottom of the zone.

A physical 6-foot-3, 230-pounder, Rossi combines a low release height and extension to provide deception. He can't always maintain his delivery and has little history of providing consistent strikes. If he can develop decent control, he certainly has the stuff to find a bullpen role in the big leagues.

2025

Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Slider: 60 | Splitter: 55 | Control: 40 | Overall: 40

Rossi's college career lasted six seasons with stops at West Florida, the State JC of Florida (Manatee-Sarasota) and UNC Charlotte. After losing 2023 to injury, he returned to hit 97 mph with his fastball and destroy college hitters with his slider the following spring. He turned 25 two weeks before the Yankees signed him for $10,000 as a nondrafted free agent in July 2024 and has dominated in his pro debut this year.

Rossi's mid-80s slider has continued to overmatch batters at two Class A levels, featuring huge sweep at its best. He sets up his slide piece with a fastball that parks as 94-96 mph and touches 98, and he'll alternate between carrying it at the letters and throwing it with downhill plane lower in the zone. His upper-80s splitter can make hitters look foolish too.

A physical 6-foot-3, 230-pounder, Rossi works from a low arm slot and uses his size to create extension. He had trouble throwing strikes in college, and while he's doing a better job as a pro, his control still needs more improvement. He has the stuff to advance quickly if he can find the strike zone on a regular basis.
