As a freshman reliever at Westmont College in California, Youngerman helped the Warriors win a NAIA Championship, then moved into the rotation as the school moved to Division II status. He went from a very strong showing in the Cape Cod League to Oklahoma State and put up impressive numbers while shuttling between the rotation and bullpen. The Phillies nabbed him in the fourth round of the 2025 Draft, signing him for right around slot.

A strong 6-foot-3 right-hander, Youngerman could have the goods to start. He leans very heavily on his fastball – he threw it more than 70 percent of the time for the Cowboys last year – which that sat 92-94 mph and topped out at 96, with a little more in the tank when he’s relieving. He commands the pitch well, getting a fair amount of swing and miss as well as a lot of chase on the pitch.

His other offerings – a tight mid-80s slider and a fading changeup he throws about as hard – are not as consistently effective, though both can miss bats. He limited walks throughout his college career, another reason why he should get every chance to refine his secondary pitches while developing as a starter.

He would have ranked in the NCAA Division I top five in ERA (2.08), K/BB ratio (7.4) and WHIP (0.87) if he hadn't fallen three innings shy of qualifying. The Phillies saw enough to make the right-hander their fourth-round pick in July.

Youngerman sits at 92-94 mph and touches 96 with his riding fastball as a starter, and he finds a couple more ticks of velocity as a reliever. He relies heavily on his heater because he has trouble landing his tight mid-80s slider for strikes. He has a decent changeup with similar velocity that fades and helps him keep left-handers in check.

While Youngerman's pitches have just ordinary shapes, they work because he commands them well. He has a strong 6-foot-3 frame and scouts have no concerns about his ability to start at the next level. His ability to enhance his secondary pitches will determine his long-term success.
