Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 45 | Run: 45 | Arm: 50 | Field: 45 | Overall: 45

Hailing from the same Notre Dame High School program in Southern California that produced Hunter Greene and Giancarlo Stanton, Gurevitch stayed in the Golden State to attend the University of San Diego. He’s been a presence in the Toreros' lineup for three years, showing improvement each season to the point where he’s been one of the better college performers on the west coast as the 2025 season continues, really catching fire when the West Coast Conference schedule got going.

Gurevitch has the chance to be a very good hitter at the next level. He has a handsy swing from the left side of the plate that is capable of making extremely loud contact, and he’s registering very high exit velocities this spring. He absolutely crushes fastballs, but he has a tendency to be a bit over-aggressive and chase pitches -- especially breaking stuff -- out of the zone, though some evaluators think that can be toned down. It’s mostly hard line drives to all fields, but there’s some belief there’s more power to come given how hard his contact has been.

Strong and compact, Gurevitch has played some third base this year, but most feel like he’s destined to be a first baseman. He gets very high marks for his toughness, leadership and overall makeup, which might give teams more confidence he’ll maximize his tools.

2026

Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 50 | Run: 40 | Arm: 50 | Field: 45 | Overall: 40

Southern California’s Notre Dame HS helped produce Hunter Greene and Giancarlo Stanton, and Gurevitch is aiming to be the next big name from the program, though his path took him in state to the University of San Diego before the pros. He showed steady gains over his three years with the Toreros before exploding with a .371/.477/.681 line and 17 homers in 56 games as a junior. The Cardinals took him in the third round, signed him for slot at $879,000 and sent him to Single-A Palm Beach for 22 games where he struggled in the late summer.

Gurevitch has a straight-on stance from the left side of the box, featuring a crouch and hands held high. He relies on those hands to drive his contact, without a big load in his lower half, but that was enough to make lots of loud impact during his final spring on campus. His clean mechanics made him look like a potential above-average hitter coming out of school with at least average pop. Fair or not, some of his reddish flags from college glowed crimson in the Florida State League, namely his high chase and whiff rates on sliders and his inability to catch up to pitches at 94 mph or above. That exposure, along with an offseason to prepare, could help Gurevitch erase those concerns in his first full campaign in ’26.

Gurevitch got some time at third base with San Diego, but many believed he was always headed to first base. Indeed, all of his starts with Palm Beach came at the cold corner. He’ll need to hit to be valuable there, but he earned good reviews for his leadership coming out of school, adding to the belief that he could take well to St. Louis’ hitting development department.

Strong and compact, Gurevitch has played some third base this year, but most feel like he’s destined to be a first baseman. He could also see time in the outfield just to test out the grass. He got very high marks for his toughness, leadership and overall makeup as part of the Draft process, and the Cardinals should be excited to see that come into play on the pro side.
