After taking college hitters with their first three picks in the 2024 Draft, the Twins dipped their toes in the high-end high school arm bucket by drafting Hill, a projectable left-hander from Texas, in the Competitive Balance Round B, signing him for an above-slot $2 million. While on a monitored workload, he dominated the Single-A Florida State League, posting a 2.77 ERA, .190 batting average against and 11.8 K/9 over 52 innings, earning a late promotion to High-A Cedar Rapids and capping things off with a Midwest League playoff win.
The Twins were thrilled with how Hill acclimated to pro ball. His fastball touched 99 mph at times and averaged 95 during his debut season and it’s not tough to imagine hitting upper registers more consistently as he continues to add strength to his 6-foot-5 frame. His low-80s sweeper was his go-to secondary, producing a 41-percent miss rate according to Synergy and he also has a big upper-70s curve that missed bats at the same rate, though he throws it less frequently. His 84-mph changeup was key in neutralizing right-handed hitters. There isn’t a need to tinker too much with his arsenal, especially after he posted a strikeout rate over 30 percent in 2025, but something like a cutter or a harder slider could be useful for a different look from his two big breaking balls.
Other than the need for more innings, Hill’s next order of business will be to attack the zone more, with those harder, shorter secondary offerings perhaps easier to land in the zone. The walk rate was high, but there’s confidence that will improve with time and the Twins are excited to see what he can do in year two, at age 20, after spending all offseason at the complex in Fort Myers.

While the Twins aggressively went after advanced bats in the 2024 Draft, taking college hitters with seven of their first eight picks, they made one exception in Competitive Balance Round B. That’s when they took Hill, a super-projectable Texas high school left-hander. The best prep southpaw from the Lone Star State since Kyle Muller, Hill received an over-slot bonus of $2 million to sign him away from his Dallas Baptist commitment. He didn’t pitch last summer, instead focusing on building up and preparing for his first full season of pro ball.
Following a growth spurt during his senior year, Hill now stands 6-foot-5 and saw his velocity increase thanks to his added size and strength. While pitching in live BP settings with the Twins, he was consistently 93-95 mph with his fastball, touching 96, in line with how he was dealing during his senior season. His low-80s sweeper is his best pitch, thrown with high spin rates and the ability to backfoot right-handed hitters. His upper-70s curve is a distinct breaking pitch with more depth and his changeup flashes average or more movement and should be a weapon, especially against right-handed hitters.
The Twins will be conservative with Hill’s usage out of the gate as a high schooler who still could add a ton of strength to his long frame. They’ll want to see how his stuff plays against pro hitters before trying to change much in terms of pitch design, and it's more about getting innings under his belt while he refines his secondary offerings and focuses on repeating his delivery to land all of his stuff in the strike zone.

Standing out much more for his projectability than his stuff on the showcase circuit last summer, Hill seemed destined to attend Dallas Baptist. Then he made a huge leap this spring while pitching Grapevine HS to the Texas 5-A state championship and was popping up in top-two-rounds conversations. The Lone Star State’s best prep southpaw prospect since Kyle Muller, who signed for $2.5 million as a Braves second-rounder in 2016, Hill went just after the second round, in Competitive Balance Round B, but got top of the second round money ($2 million) to sign with the Twins.
After parking around 89-90 mph and topping out at 93 with his fastball last summer, Hill has grown 3 inches, added 15 pounds and started dealing in the low 90s while reaching 96. His best pitch is a high-spin slider in the low 80s that he backfoots well against right-handers. He also has a solid upper-70s curveball with more depth and a low-80s changeup with sink and similar promise.
Hill not only possesses four viable offerings, but he also has the ability to throw them all for strikes. He still has room to add plenty of muscle to his lanky frame, so his repertoire could continue to get stronger. The biggest knock on him is a lack of history with quality stuff, though his upside at least as a No. 3 starter is hard to deny.
