Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 70 | Run: 40 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 65

Scouts and college recruiters took little notice of Condon when he was a physically underdeveloped Georgia high schooler, and he wound up going to Georgia as a walk-on. He redshirted in 2022 as he continued to gain strength, then earned national freshman of the year honors last spring by slashing .386/.484/.800 with a Southeastern Conference freshman-record 25 homers. He won the Golden Spikes Award and SEC Player of the Year accolades while posting even better numbers this spring, leading NCAA Division I in batting (.433), slugging (1.009), OPS (1.565), homers (37), extra-base hits (58) and total bases (233).

A leading candidate to go No. 1 overall, Condon should surpass Jeff Pyburn (No. 5 overall in 1980) as the highest-drafted player in Bulldogs history because he has a huge offensive ceiling. He has top-of-the-scale raw power that plays from foul pole to foul pole and his combination of bat speed, strength and leverage in his 6-foot-6 frame allows him to mishit balls yet still drive them out of the park. Despite his long arms, he keeps his right-handed swing relatively compact and controls the strike zone while repeatedly making loud contact against all types of pitching.

Though he's a below-average runner, Condon is reasonably athletic and covers ground with long strides once he gets going. After splitting time between first base and the outfield corners as a freshman, he has played all three outfield spots and third base this spring. He's not quick enough for third or center but he does have solid-to-plus arm strength and can provide average defense in left or right field.

Condon went from virtual unknown to one of the best hitters in the college game, redshirting his freshman year at Georgia after going relatively unrecruited as a high schooler. He set a Southeastern Conference freshman record with 25 homers in 2023 then had an absolutely stupendous 2024, winning the Golden Spikes Award while leading Division I hitters in a host of categories, including average (.433), homers (37) and OPS (1.565). His name floated to the top of the first round, and he ended up going No. 3 to the Rockies. He struggled during his 25-game pro debut while trying to play through a hand injury.

At Georgia, the 6-foot-6 Condon used an upright stance and simple mechanics to deliver incredible raw power in games for the Bulldogs, showing the ability to hit the ball out to all fields with bat speed, strength and leverage. The raw power was evident after he signed with the Rockies, but he lost the approach that made him such a tough out in college, with a 34/4 K/BB ratio over 100 at-bats in the High-A Northwest League. The hand clearly was an issue, and then he tried to do too much. At his best, he controls the zone well and makes consistent hard contact.

Condon is a solid athlete given his size, and while he has below-average speed, he's better underway. He played all three outfield spots and third base at Georgia last year and saw most of his time with Spokane in left field, with some time at the hot corner mixed in. He likely profiles best in an outfield corner with a strong arm, and the Rockies were very impressed with how he prepared and handled his struggles during his pro debut.

He was in the conversation to go No. 1 overall and landed third to the Rockies, receiving a record-tying bonus of $9.25 million to sign.
