After three productive years in Vanderbilt's outfield, Reynolds was the Giants' first selection in the 2016 Draft as a second-round pick. He continued to do what he did in college, hit, over his first year-plus in the Giants' organization, and was then sent to the Pirates before the '18 season in the Andrew McCutchen trade. Despite missing a chunk of his first year with Pittsburgh because of a broken hamate, he showed his hit tool still works at the upper levels.
Wherever Reynolds has gone, he's hit. That was even true after he came back from his injury when he hit .342 in August, and he carries a career .309 average into 2019. He made up for lost at-bats in the Arizona Fall League, and while he wasn't productive and his hand experienced some soreness, he maintained his outstanding plate discipline and consistently had quality at-bats. Reynolds will still chase with two strikes, but he's learning to control the strike zone and get on base at a better clip than anticipated. He does have the ability to drive the ball, but it's unclear just how much power he'll have as he's generally been geared to contact.
While not a burner, Reynolds is sneaky quick and has really good reads and routes in the outfield, allowing him to be a solid defender in center. He'll continue to get time in all three outfield spots, waiting for his first chance to impact the big league roster. His floor is as a fourth outfielder, but if the power comes and/or he shows he can stay in center long-term, his ceiling is that of a solid big league regular.
